K-Tronix Repair Report (Honest Value Assessment)

Yamaha RX-V385 • Customer: Jack Miller • Date: October 12, 2025

Technician:
Kevin Nielsen
Status:
Protection engaged; smoke observed near power-switch/operation board
Summary:
Fault indicates stress/short on the +/-12 V low-voltage regulator rail feeding control/protect circuits. Repair is possible, but not cost-effective versus current resale values.

Findings

The receiver enters protection immediately. With both secondaries connected (AC_BL ~ 26 VAC & AC_BH ~ 49 VAC) the protection behavior worsens and a light wisp of smoke appears near the power-switch/operation board. This points to a heavy draw/short on the +/-12 V regulator section.
